Inca trails above Cusco, archaeological sites and a stair-filled urban downhill into San Blas.
The backyard of the Inca capital is one of the best mountain bike playgrounds in the world. A 20-minute shuttle puts you above 4,000 m, and from there drop pre-Hispanic trails that highland communities still use every day to come down to Cusco. These were never built for bikes: they are living paths, centuries old, that today form a unique enduro network.
Along the way you ride past major Inca sites such as Qenqo, the Temple of the Moon, Puca Pucara and Inkilltambo, through eucalyptus forest, farming terraces and viewpoints over the Cusco valley.
The difficulty builds gradually: we start on Huayllarcocha, flowing and full of berms; continue on Inca Cárcel down to Inkilltambo and on Yuncaypata, more technical; and finish with the urban downhill, riding colonial stairs and alleys through the San Blas neighbourhood into the historic centre.
Bike, protective gear, guide and shuttle included. Lunch, entrance tickets and hotel pick-up are not included.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We meet in Cusco; a 20-minute shuttle takes you above 4,000 m and our vehicle supports you all day. Private groups of 2 to 6 riders, with a special rate for solo riders.
You need previous mountain bike experience. The difficulty builds gradually, from flowing berms on Huayllarcocha to the more technical Yuncaypata and the stairs of the urban downhill.
The day starts around 4,000 m. Spend a few nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the tour.
