A high-Andean traverse, an Inca citadel hanging above the valley and a thousand-turn descent.
The day starts at the Cuper Pass – Chinchero, at 4,200 m, with the lakes of Qoricocha and Piuray shining below. From there we cross the Andean páramo for about 20 minutes on a singletrack that cuts through a treeless plain of grass and wind, up to 4,400 m: the high point of the day and one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Sacred Valley, with the Urubamba range stretching from side to side.
From the high point begins the descent to Huchuy Qosqo — "little Cusco" in Quechua: a royal Inca estate attributed to Wiracocha Inca, built on a natural terrace halfway up the mountain, with a large adobe kallanka on stone foundations, farming terraces, storehouses and a water channel that still runs today. It is one of those places almost nobody reaches, and you get there by bike.
After the visit comes the legendary thousand-turn trail down through the terraces to the valley floor: you choose whether to finish in Calca or Lamay, both at 2,800 m. Either variant is 30 kilometres.
Bike, protective gear and guide included. Lunch, entrance tickets and hotel pick-up are not included.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We meet in Calca; our vehicle drives you up to the Cuper Pass – Chinchero and picks you up at the bottom. Private groups of 2 to 6 riders, with a special rate for solo riders.
You need previous mountain bike experience: a high-altitude traverse, a long descent and a trail full of switchbacks through the terraces.
The day starts at 4,200 m and reaches 4,400 m. Spend a few nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the tour.
You choose where to finish: both villages are at 2,800 m and either variant is 30 km.
Lunch is not included. Bring the food you like to ride with.
