Three descents from 4,200 m to 2,800 m in a single day, in the best mountain bike destination of the Sacred Valley.
Lamay is considered the best mountain bike destination in the Sacred Valley: a fan of trails dropping from the high Andean lakes at 4,200 m to the village at 2,800 m, beside the Vilcanota river. These are ancestral paths that communities have used since Inca times to travel between villages, and today they form one of the finest enduro networks on the planet, with more than 4,000 m of vertical available in a single day.
The trails are wonderfully varied: flowing, very fast sections, rock gardens, tight switchbacks and open terrain up high that turns leafy and wooded as you descend.
We start at Sapacto and ride down to Lamay, shuttle up to Huama lake and descend again, then head up to Chumpe lake for the 12-kilometre descent that closes the day.
Want more? We swap one descent for Huancco: you push your bike from the lake (4,200 m) up to the 4,400 m pass before dropping 14 km to Lamay. For a shorter option there is Huayafara, from the village at 4,100 m down to Lamay, 7 km.
Bike, protective gear, guide and shuttle included. Lunch, the USD 10 community fee and hotel pick-up are not included.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We meet in Lamay and our vehicle shuttles you to every trailhead. Private groups of 2 to 6 riders, with a special rate for solo riders.
You need previous mountain bike experience. Expect fast flowing sections, rock gardens and tight switchbacks, with ≈4,200 m of descent in one day.
Every descent starts around 4,200 m, and the Huancco option reaches 4,400 m. Spend a few nights in Cusco or the Sacred Valley before the tour.
