Peru's most famous trail, a pre-Inca site and four linked descents in a single day.
Lares is, without argument, the most famous mountain bike trail in Peru and one of the best known in South America. It starts at the pass, at 4,400 m, among glacial moraines, lakes and high-Andean wetlands, with sandy freeride sections where the bike simply flies, and drops 12 kilometres non-stop to the village of Totora. This is the descent riders put on their list before they even land in Cusco.
The day continues at the pre-Inca site of Ankasmarca — a cluster of circular storehouses perched above the valley — with two trails of fast singletrack, big rocks, tight turns and a steep final pitch. The closer is Parco: 10 continuous kilometres from 4,250 m down to 2,800 m.
Every trail in the Calca valley is flowing with technical sections: they begin on open ground with no vegetation, high-Andean grass and huge glaciers on the horizon, and as you drop the vegetation returns, you ride through forest and the trail narrows but stays fast and fun.
Bike, protective gear, guide and shuttle included. Lunch, entrance tickets and hotel pick-up are not included.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We meet in Calca; our vehicle shuttles you to every trailhead and picks you up at the bottom of each descent. Private groups of 2 to 6 riders, with a special rate for solo riders.
