Red dirt, fast flowing trails and the Maras salt pans. The best mountain bike day tour to discover the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
The Maras plateau is the driest and most playful sector of the Sacred Valley: red dirt, super flowing singletrack, loose technical sections and a constant speed that hooks you from the first metre. You ride all day surrounded by mountains and glaciers above 5,000 m, with the valley wide open below you and Andean communities still farming and weaving as they have for centuries. Cusco is one of the most famous mountain bike destinations on the planet, and this is the perfect day to find out why.
In one day we link the best-known trails of the area: Maras Avalancha, El Sapo, Misminay Enduro, Maras 2 and Maras Salineras. Each one is 5 to 7 km, starting around 3,200 m and finishing at 2,800 m.
We start gently with Maras Avalancha and add the rest as the group finds its rhythm, riding past world-famous landmarks like the Maras Salt Mines — thousands of salt pans cascading down the mountainside — and the Inca site of Moray, the agricultural laboratory of the Incas. Our vehicle shuttles you to every trailhead: all you do is ride down.
Bike, protective gear, guide and shuttle included. Lunch, entrance tickets to Moray and the Salt Mines and hotel pick-up are not included.
9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We meet in Urubamba; our vehicle shuttles you to every trailhead and picks you up at the bottom of each trail. Private groups of 2 to 6 riders, with a special rate for solo riders.
You need previous mountain bike experience and to feel comfortable at speed on flowing singletrack and on loose, technical sections.
We start gently with Maras Avalancha and link El Sapo, Misminay Enduro and Maras 2 according to the group's level.
Each trail is 5 to 7 km. Our vehicle takes you back up to every trailhead: all you do is ride down.
Lunch is not included. Bring the food you like to ride with.
Entrance tickets to Moray and the Maras Salt Mines are not included in the price.
