Lamay Trails :


Lamay is one of the most famous place in the Sacred Valley of the Incas for mountain biking. There is several trails in the area, but 4 of them are emblematic and famous for their level of difficulty and beauty of its landscapes.  

 

Classic Lamay - Sapaccto

A must-do for every rider, this trail goes from the top of the mountain without vegetation, towards the lower part of the valley where there is a luxury vegetation, the terrain is irregular, ranging from wet sections, other rocky and loose, some rocky steps and fast and flowing sections, the difficulty is intermediate. The gradient on this trail is constant, with a approximately 35 degrees.

 

 

95% downhill, 5% flat. 
Difficulty level: Intermediate - Advanced / Black Diamond 
Trail distance: 13.5 km
Starting altitude (village of Sapacto): 4190 m.a.s.l.
Altitude arrival village (Lamay): 2943 m.a.s.l.
Elevation gain on descent: 1247 m
Time from the nearest village (Lamay) : 40 minutes

 

Lamay Huancco: 

This is a very fast, flowy but demanding line; it has some technical, challenging and exposed rocky parts, as well as some very fast and fun parts. This bike trail starts at the top of the Huancco mountain and descends along the ridge, into a lush valley with many curves, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and corn fields all the way down to the village of Lamay. 

 

Difficulty level: Intermediate - Advanced
Trail distance: 9.3 km
Starting altitude (Laguna Huancco): 4190 m.a.s.l.
Altitude of arrival village (Lamay): 2943 m.a.s.l.
Elevation gain on descent: 1247 m
Time from the nearest village (Lamay) : 40 minutes

 

Lamay Huayllafara:

A fast but super fun trail.
Huayllafara is a typical community, located very close to the village of Lamay, from where descends a trail is shown as a fast and mostly singletrack; because it is moderately exposed. However in 90% of the route, you will have all the grip you need to enjoy it to the fullest. It also has short sections of cracks, dirt and rock steps, which in any case demand some technique.


100% downhill.

Trail distance: 6 km
Altitude starting point (Laguna Huama): 3700 m.a.s.l.
Altitude arrival village (Lamay): 2950 m.a.s.l.
Elevation gain in descent: 690 m
Time from the nearest village (Lamay) : 40 minutes

 

Lamay Huama:

The village of Huama is located 30 minutes from the village of Lamay, it is a typical village, where locals support mountain bike and adapt some of their typical roads for mountain biking. It's characterised by being quite technical with lots of steep corners, some vertical sections, lots of screes and some exposed sections. Definitely a very fun route for experienced mountain bikers.
