Ausangate & Sacred Valley of The Incas MTB

Arrival to Cusco city (3500 masl), ancient capital of the Inca empire; currently the historical and cultural capital of Peru. You will go crazy by how fascinating the historic center is, with its typical streets, living culture, the best cuisine in the world and amazing Inca monuments; in addition to the immense amount of mountains that surround this magical city.

Our team will pick you up upon arrival at the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (Cusco) and transfer to your hotel in Cusco, very close to the Plaza de Armas.

We have all the mechanical equipment and tools, as well as bicycle support, to leave our mountain bikes ready from the first day.

In the evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner and explanation of the mtb trip.

We start the day riding the mountain bike trails near Cusco city, we will have very flow trails, some of them built by riders from Cusco. 

We will pass near some archaeological sites, Inca complexes and native forests, to finish with a unique “urban downhill” section, which ends right in the heart of the city of Cusco (Plaza de Armas).

We will use our shuttle to reach the starting points of all the bike trails and also to be able to better adapt to the altitude and terrain (soil) conditions.

This day will be perfect to test our bikes and solve any details with them; Cusco will be the only city with all the facilities to get what we need for our mountain bikes.

Cusco Conexión is a new and absolutely beautiful mountain bike trail, due to the diversity of high Andean landscapes that it presents, as well as the variety of terrains (soils) and Inca monuments along its singletrack. This trail crosses over the mountains located between the Sacred Valley of the Incas and Cusco, crosses immense Andean paramo areas, with some lagoons around, where we can find many llamas and alpacas.

We will start the ride, pedaling from the heights of the mountains of Cusco, after 2 to 3 hours flat / climb, we will reach summits (between 4200 and 4300 masl), from where, you can see how endless and imposing are the  mountains of Cusco - ¡the Andes!

Once we reach the highest point of our MTB journey (4300 masl), it will be time to pack all our equipment and start going down one of the longest and most beautiful mountain bike trails between Cusco and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

This trail is featured by being open and flow at the beginning in some parts, but with many switchbacks and technical rock gardens; As you continue descending, the trail becomes overgrown and narrow, finally ending in the town of Calca (Sacred Valley of the Incas - 2800 masl).

This will be a day to relax and enjoy; On the way to Ausangate Glacier, we will visit the “Mountain of 7 Colors - Rainbow Mountain” (5000 masl), this will be a nice and soft hike of 40 minutes.

**Optional: You can ride your bike until the bottom of the Rainbow mountain (1 hour climb - 2.7km)**

The landscape from the Rainbow Mountain is fabulous and unique on the planet. It is also a clear example of global warming, because a few years ago, this place was covered by snow.

At the end of the visit, it will be time to get ready and enjoy a mountain bike trail that descends from the Rainbow Mountain bottom until to our campsite. 

This trail is featured by being very smooth and flowy, surrounded by surprising landscapes.

**Optional: You can visit Ausangate Cocha lagoon from this point**

We will spend the night in a local family house, where we will be able to experience some of the common activities people perform on this remote area

• shearing alpacas and using their wool.
• prepare pachamanca (typical food prepared with hot rocks).
• Rest and see the beauty of the landscapes surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

• Rainbow Mountain Downhill to Campsite.
• 5% uphill - 10% flat - 85% downhill / 1 hour.

"The Ausangate Peak/Glacier is considered one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the world" (much more fun to do it on a mountain bike).

We will wake up surrounded by mountains and snowy peaks.

This day the challenge will be to ride up above 5000 meters high "Abra Qampa"; We will get to this point pedaling and walking in some parts, although it will be demanding, the landscape of mountains, snow-capped mountains and multicolored lagoons will be the great prize during the morning.

Once we reach the highest point (5100 masl), after noon, we will enjoy a very long and epic mountain bike downhill, through very flowy, fast and very scenic trails, which pass through different multicolored lagoons during the MTB journey.

Finally, after an amazing day on the bike, we will arrive at the thermal baths (hotsprings) of Pacchanta (4200 masl), to relax in its thermal mineral baths and rest deservedly watching the sunset next to the Ausangate mountain.

After breakfast let's say goodbye to Pacchanta town and to go to the Sacred Valley of the Incas (2800 masl).

On the way we will stop at the top of a mountain, passing the "Abra Cuyuni" (4500 masl), where we will find an aerial radar and where the name of this famous mountain bike trail "El Radar" comes from.

This ride is featured by being very long (17km long) where we will find different types of terrain as we descend. It has many levels of difficulty throughout its trail, which begins very fast and open, to finally end in a thin path with many switchbacks and vegetation. Finally the trail ends in Andahuaylillas town (2900 masl).

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE for a mountain biker to complete these two trails for the first time without saying “I would like to ride them again”.

These two mountain bike trails are the most famous and popular in the Sacred Valley of the Incas and some of the most famous internationally, due to the incredible scenery, super flowy and long trails.

Both trails are suitable for any type of mountain biker.

Our vehicle will take us to 4,461 meters high, "Abra de Lares", where the party starts; We guarantee Lares mountain bike trail will blow your mind; Ancient Inca trails, wild valleys, immense mountains, absolute beauty and many llamas and alpacas along the way. Our ride ends in the town of Calca (2850 masl).

After a typical lunch, our shuttle will take us to Lamay town (Community of Sapaccto - 4,310 masl), from where we will ride down an incredible mountain bike trail, which is featured by being thin and absolutely flowy and fast.

Along the ride we will be able to appreciate the way of life of the small local communities and villages. Finally, the trail ends in the town of Lamay at 2,960 meters, where our vehicle will be waiting for us and return.

This day will be epic! We will visit 2 of the most famous mountain bike trails in the world; “The salt mines of Maras and the Inca complex of Moray”

• Moray, ancient Inca complex used for agricultural experimentation.
• Salt Mines of Maras, used from the Inca times to the present, from where the best gourmet salt in the world is obtained.

We will start the ride from the upper part of the community of Misminay (3794 masl), from here, we will bike along a dry and dusty trail, but quite fluid, where you can play a lot with the terrain; We will descend to the Inca complex of Moray. And from there we will take a pedaling connection to the town of Maras, from where we will find a trail which goes down to the salt mines of Maras; where we will have free time to enter and see this privileged place.

Finally we will go down a very fluid single track to the Vilcanota River - town of Pichingoto (2800 meters) - Sacred Valley of the Incas.
